Xiaomi’s Second Electric Vehicle, the YU7: All You Need to Know

A new regulatory filing has shed light on the range of Xiaomi’s second electric vehicle model, the YU7. This comes after several regulatory filings in recent months revealed some key specifications of the upcoming EV.

The YU7 will be available in two product models, namely the XMA6500LBEVA1 and the XMA6500LBEVR3, both of which are battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The XMA6500LBEVA1 boasts a battery pack capacity of 101.7 kWh, offering CLTC range options ranging from 670 km to 760 km. On the other hand, the XMA6500LBEVR3 features a slightly smaller 96.3 kWh battery pack, with CLTC range options between 725 km and an impressive 820 km.

Interestingly, the XMA6500LBEVA1 is a dual-motor model powered by CATL batteries, while the XMA6500LBEVR3 is a single-motor model equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from BYD’s battery manufacturing arm, FinDreams Battery. Dual-motor models typically consume more energy than their single-motor counterparts, despite ternary batteries offering higher energy density compared to LFP batteries.

The YU7’s dual-motor version has a vehicle weight of 2,405 kg and a battery pack weight of 666 kg, resulting in a battery pack energy density of 152.7 Wh/kg. On the other hand, the single-motor version weighs 2,315 kg with a battery pack weight of 719 kg, translating to an energy density of 134 Wh/kg. The energy consumption per 100 kilometers is impressively low at 13.38 kWh for the single-motor version and 11.74 kWh for the dual-motor version.

Xiaomi officially launched its first electric vehicle, the SU7, in March 2024. The SU7 is available in three variants with varying starting prices. Deliveries of the SU7 began in April 2024, with the Pro variant hitting the roads in May.
