The Renault Scenic E-Tech: A New Era of Interior Design
Renault has truly stepped up its game when it comes to interior design, moving far beyond the bland and plastic-looking cabins of the past. The Scenic E-Tech is a prime example of this evolution, offering a blend of tactile materials and vibrant hues that create a warm and inviting atmosphere, especially in the Iconic-grade model with its panoramic roof.
The standout feature of the cabin is the innovative roof, which can be fully or partially opacified in segments using polymer dispersed liquid crystals. This unique feature can be controlled by voice through the car’s Google Assistant, adding a touch of modernity to the interior. Additionally, the roof design saves valuable headroom compared to traditional mechanical blinds.
Inside the Scenic, you’ll find a combination of clever storage solutions and overall comfort, although there are some ergonomic quirks to be aware of. The cockpit is well-designed, with a high-quality quartic steering wheel and a centrally positioned display angled towards the driver. Physical controls for essential functions and a convenient phone-charging tray add to the cabin’s usability.
However, the digital rear-view mirror and large A-pillars can obstruct visibility, making city driving a bit challenging. Despite this, passenger and cargo space are generous, with ample headroom in the back and a spacious boot that benefits from the absence of a rear-mounted motor. The 545-litre boot capacity and underfloor storage make the Scenic practical for everyday use.
When it comes to technology, the Scenic E-Tech’s 12-inch touchscreen is responsive and user-friendly, with physical climate controls for added convenience. The OpenR Link system offers a variety of apps, including Google Maps with charge-related data and range estimates based on weather conditions. The optional 410W Harman Kardon sound system delivers impressive audio quality by class standards.
