Renault has recently unveiled two new-generation full hybrid E-Tech powertrains, designed to enhance the performance of the Symbioz and Espace models. Developed by Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Renault Group, Geely, and Aramco, these new powertrains aim to offer improved performance and lower emissions to meet the increasing demand for eco-friendly automotive solutions.
The 160hp version of the E-Tech powertrain installed in the Symbioz model boasts emissions of 98g/km of CO2 and achieves 4.3 litres/100km according to the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure). On the other hand, the Espace model with a 200hp powertrain and optimized gear changing achieves 4.8 litres/100km and emits 108g/km of CO2, positioning it as an equally strong performer in terms of efficiency and performance.
The full hybrid E-Tech 160hp 1.8-litre powertrain is available on Captur and, as of this year, on Symbioz as well. This powertrain combines a combustion engine with two electric motors powered by a 1.4 kWh battery and an intelligent multi-mode clutchless dogbox. The upgraded 1.8-litre engine delivers 80kW, offering better performance with increased torque and lower fuel consumption.
Featuring a high-pressure (350 bar) direct-injection system and operating on an Atkinson cycle for enhanced efficiency, the powertrain is designed to optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions. The Renault Symbioz, launched in 2024, integrates C-segment technologies with compact dimensions and spacious interiors, making it one of the top-selling SUVs in France.
The Symbioz’s new powertrain significantly improves acceleration and extends its range to up to 1,000 km, catering to the needs of modern drivers. Meanwhile, the Renault Espace maintains its reputation as a long-distance traveler with a spacious and modular interior. With a contemporary design based on the brand’s new design language, the Espace reduces aerodynamic noise through technical improvements.
Available as a five- or seven-seater, the Espace offers best-in-class load capacity and technology, including the largest Solarbay opacifying roof in the Renault range. Overall, Renault’s new-generation full hybrid E-Tech powertrains aim to set new standards in performance, efficiency, and sustainability in the automotive industry.
