Rivian, the American EV automaker known for its unique electric trucks and SUVs, is expanding its reach across the pond into the UK. The company’s latest move involves setting up a new office in London, which will serve as an AI-centric development hub.

Rivian already has a strong presence in the United States, with headquarters in Palo Alto, California, and a main production facility in Normal, Illinois. The company also has offices in various other locations across the US, including Irvine, Carson, Wittmann, and Plymouth. Additionally, Rivian has international offices in Vancouver, Amsterdam, and Belgrade.

The decision to establish an office in the UK comes as Rivian recognizes the country’s growing reputation as a world leader in artificial intelligence engineering. By tapping into the talent pool in the UK, Rivian aims to further enhance its autonomous driving technology. The company’s current Autonomy Platform allows for hands-free, eyes-on highway driving, but Rivian is looking to push the boundaries and offer even greater levels of autonomous capabilities.

Rivian’s second-generation electric vehicles have been designed with an “AI-centric approach,” and the company is continuously collecting data to improve its ADAS technology. The goal is to build a Large Driving Model that will enable a deeper understanding of complex driving scenarios and accelerate the development of safer and more capable autonomous features.

The work conducted at the new UK AI hub will play a crucial role in enabling Rivian’s EVs to receive over-the-air updates in the future. The company plans to host an “AI and Autonomy Day” later this year to provide more insights into its product and technology roadmap. Rivian is confident that the combination of its perception platform and in-vehicle data infrastructure will pave the way for significant advancements in autonomous driving technology.

As Rivian continues to expand its global footprint and invest in cutting-edge technology, the opening of the UK AI hub marks another milestone in the company’s journey towards revolutionizing the electric vehicle industry.
