Royal Enfield, the legendary Indian motorcycle brand known for its classic designs and rugged appeal, is venturing into the world of electric motorcycles with a bang. Their upcoming electric adventure bike, rumored to be the brand’s first electric Himalayan ADV model, is set to be the most powerful motorcycle ever produced by the company.
According to reports from ZigWheels, the new electric bike will boast a massive 14 kWh battery, putting it in the same league as established electric motorcycle brands like Zero Motorcycles and LiveWire. This emphasis on battery capacity suggests a strong focus on both range and performance.
The motor is expected to deliver around 75 kW, equivalent to over 100 horsepower – surpassing the power output of any current Royal Enfield model, including their 650cc twin-cylinder gas bikes. This signifies a significant leap for the company, not just in terms of electric motorcycles but in overall performance standards.
Collaborating with Stark Future, a high-performance electric dirt bike company in which Royal Enfield’s parent company, Eicher Motors, has a stake, has enabled the development of a new motor for the electric bike. This partnership has also led to the creation of a new platform that could potentially serve as the foundation for future electric models from the company.
Despite its traditional design heritage, Royal Enfield is embracing modern technology where it matters most. The 14 kWh battery promises not only impressive performance but also reliable real-world range – a crucial factor for an adventure bike intended for long journeys. If the build quality and durability match the company’s current Himalayan model, this electric motorcycle could become one of the most rugged and practical options in a market that lacks adventure-oriented electric bikes.
Interestingly, while the electric Himalayan was initially unveiled as a development project in 2023, it may not be the first electric Royal Enfield to hit the market. The honor is likely to go to the upcoming Flying Flea, a smaller urban commuter inspired by the WWII-era Royal Enfield paratrooper bike. However, the electric Himalayan is positioned for open roads and off-road trails, offering a different riding experience.
With its impressive specifications and development trajectory, the electric Himalayan could not only mark Royal Enfield’s entry into the high-performance electric motorcycle segment but also establish itself as a serious competitor in the premium electric motorcycle market.
