Skoda’s Future Focus on ICE Models Over Electric Cars
Skoda has made it clear that they are not planning to launch an electric car smaller than the upcoming Epiq model in the near future. Instead, the Czech automaker is choosing to concentrate on their existing range of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
The Epiq, set to debut next year, will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s new MEB Entry platform, sharing it with other models like the Volkswagen ID Polo, ID Cross, and Cupra Raval, all priced around £22,000.
While Volkswagen is also developing an electric city car based on the ID Every1 concept, Skoda has opted out of this project. Skoda’s CEO, Klaus Zellmer, stated that the brand is confident in the success of their ICE models like the Fabia, Kamiq, and Scala, which offer strong performance in the market.
Instead of competing in the smaller electric car segment, Skoda is focusing on the production version of the Vision 7S seven-seat SUV concept. Zellmer highlighted the importance of making strategic decisions to ensure profitability and return on investment.
Skoda remains committed to investing in hybrid technology for their Fabia and Kamiq models, while continuing to strengthen their presence in the market. Sales boss Martin Jahn confirmed that the brand will introduce hybrid options to enhance their existing lineup.
Overall, Skoda’s decision to prioritize ICE models over smaller electric vehicles aligns with their strategic business goals and commitment to delivering value to customers. By leveraging their current strengths in the market, Skoda aims to maintain a competitive edge and solidify their position in the automotive industry.
