Stellantis has recently made the decision to halt production of the Leapmotor T03 electric vehicle (EV) at its Tychy plant in Poland, according to a report by Reuters. The company is now exploring alternative production options within Europe for the Leapmotor vehicles, although specific details have not been disclosed at this time.
In a statement provided to the news agency, Stellantis confirmed that they have ceased assembling the Leapmotor T03 model at the Tychy plant since March 30. While the company remains committed to launching Leapmotor vehicles in Europe, they are currently evaluating different production options for the future.
The decision to discontinue production of the T03 model was first reported by the French newspaper Les Echos. Stellantis has not provided specific reasons for this move, but a source familiar with the situation mentioned to Reuters that there are no immediate plans to resume T03 production in Europe.
Instead, Stellantis and Leapmotor are focusing on transitioning to A-series models, which are expected to be manufactured outside of China starting in 2026. This shift comes after the joint decision in 2024 to forego production of the B10 electric crossover in Poland, following advisories from the Chinese government cautioning against significant investments in European countries that supported additional EU tariffs on Chinese-made EVs.
While Poland had supported the imposition of tariffs, Spain – which had abstained from the EU tariff vote – is now emerging as a potential manufacturing location for the Leapmotor B10 electric vehicle. Stellantis currently holds a 51% stake in the Leapmotor International joint venture, granting them exclusive rights for the export, sale, and production of Leapmotor EVs outside of China.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Stellantis is navigating the complexities of global production and market dynamics to ensure the success of their partnership with Leapmotor. Stay tuned for further updates on the future of Leapmotor vehicles in Europe and beyond.
