Suzuki Motor announced its plan to reduce the weight of its small Alto hatchback by 15% over the next decade. The company aims to decrease the vehicle’s energy usage and implement the technology gains in other models. Currently weighing 680kg, Suzuki intends to trim the weight by 100kg, as reported by Reuters.

Tatsuya Matsushita, an executive in charge of Suzuki’s automotive technology, highlighted the importance of reducing vehicle weight. He mentioned that heavy vehicles require larger batteries and motors for long-range and optimal performance. By reducing weight, Suzuki can potentially use smaller motors and batteries, leading to a decrease in model prices.

In addition to weight reduction, Suzuki is also focusing on developing software and advanced driver assist technology to alleviate traffic congestion in markets like India. These technological advancements are expected to enhance the driving experience and contribute to more efficient traffic flow.
