Suzuki Motor has recently unveiled its first mass-produced battery electric vehicle (EV), the e VITARA, marking a significant milestone in the company’s foray into the global EV market. The announcement took place in Milan, Italy, with production scheduled to kick off at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in the spring of 2025. Sales of the e VITARA are anticipated to commence in various countries, including Europe, India, and Japan in the summer of the same year.

The e VITARA is based on the concept model eVX, which was initially showcased at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023 and later at the Japan mobility show in October of the same year. This model represents Suzuki’s first global strategic BEV model, designed under the concept of ā€œEmotional Versatile Cruiser.ā€

Featuring a blend of advanced technology and robust design, the e VITARA boasts dimensions of 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height. It offers battery options of 49kWh and 61kWh to cater to varying consumer needs.

The BEV powertrain of the e VITARA incorporates an eAxle that integrates the motor and inverter, paired with lithium iron-phosphate batteries known for their safety and reliability. Additionally, Suzuki’s electric 4WD system, ALLGRIP-e, utilizes two independent eAxles for the front and rear wheels, with a Trail mode that aids in navigating rough terrains effectively.

The platform underpinning the e VITARA is the newly developed HEARTECT-e, specifically tailored for BEVs. It features a lightweight structure with high-voltage protection and a spacious interior. The design theme of ā€œHigh-Tech & Adventureā€ is evident in the bold exterior tires, extended wheelbase, and advanced technology integrated into the interior.

Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki expressed his excitement about the e VITARA, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing a range of eco-friendly options, including BEVs, hybrid vehicles, and CNG vehicles, to meet the specific needs of different regions. He highlighted the significance of the e VITARA in the journey towards achieving carbon neutrality and hinted at the expansion of Suzuki’s BEV lineup in the future.

In conclusion, the introduction of the e VITARA represents a significant step forward for Suzuki in the EV market, showcasing the company’s dedication to innovation and sustainability. With a focus on creating user-friendly and environmentally conscious vehicles, Suzuki aims to cater to the evolving demands of customers worldwide.
