Synopsys and SiMa.ai enhance automotive AI

Synopsys and SiMa.ai have joined forces to expedite the advancement of silicon and software for artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled features in upcoming vehicles. This collaboration brings together Synopsys’ electronic design automation (EDA), automotive-grade IP, and hardware-assisted verification solutions with SiMa.ai’s machine learning accelerator (MLA) IP and complete ML software stack application development environment.

The primary focus of this partnership is to target crucial automotive applications like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) that are gaining prominence among automakers. By providing hardware-software co-design solutions, the aim is to lower development costs and mitigate risks associated with production timelines.

Ravi Subramanian, head of product management and markets group at Synopsys, expressed, “Our collaboration with SiMa.ai will provide automotive companies a significant step forward in modernizing their hardware/software co-design processes to meet demand for advanced, in-car experiences that are increasingly costly and complex to deliver.”

By merging Synopsys’ virtual prototyping technologies with SiMa.ai’s machine learning system on chip (MLSoC) solutions, the two companies seek to simplify the development process. This partnership will enable early exploration of system-on-chip (SoC) designs, accelerated software development, and enhanced hardware/software integration.

Synopsys, with its extensive experience working with over 50 OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, has developed more than 1,000 virtual models of SoC IP, board-level ICs, and ASICs. On the other hand, SiMa.ai, a specialist in machine learning for embedded edge systems, offers a flexible technology stack that optimizes a wide range of models, sensors, and applications for performance.

Together, the solution from Synopsys and SiMa.ai aims to support the development of customizable, high-performance in-vehicle experiences, including the capability to update AI-driven applications through over-the-air updates. SiMa.ai’s founder and CEO, Krishna Rangasayee, highlighted, “The SiMa.ai MLSoC platform was designed for the best possible performance at the lowest power consumption across a diverse set of applications—that was the missing piece in the puzzle to make future cars so much smarter and safer than what we have today.”

With the combination of Synopsys’ industry-leading IP and software and SiMa.ai’s MLSoC platform, the collaboration promises to deliver a robust foundation for innovation across auto OEMs in autonomous driving and in-vehicle experiences.
