Cupra has had a successful year with strong sales in its main markets, thanks to a continuous stream of new models. One of the brand’s latest additions is the Tavascan, an electric SUV-coupé that is the first Cupra vehicle to be exported from China, where it is manufactured.
Interestingly, the Tavascan is not available in the Chinese market, as a similar model, the VW ID.Unyx, is sold there by the Volkswagen Group. Production of the Tavascan and ID.Unyx takes place at the VW Anhui joint venture plant in Hefei, where the German OEM holds a 75% stake.
Both the Tavascan and ID.Unyx share the same platform and components, including a standard 77kW (82.4 gross) CATL battery pack and the option of rear- or four-wheel drive systems. The Tavascan is available in two variants: a standard version with 210 kW (286 PS) power output and a more powerful VZ variant with a combined 250 kW (340 PS) and 80 kW (109 PS) motor on the front axle.
Inside the Tavascan, a large 15-inch screen dominates the dashboard, with most controls integrated into the touchscreen interface. The interior offers ample space for up to five occupants, with a flat floor in the back and generous legroom. The boot capacity is also impressive at 540 litres, with a low loading lip for convenience.
While the Tavascan’s interior features some hard plastics, the overall design is modern and distinctive. The exterior design is fresh and unique, with big wheels and a sleek profile. The vehicle’s range is claimed to be up to 352 miles for the single motor variant.
Overall, the Tavascan is expected to perform well in its segment, given Cupra’s strong brand image and the success of its existing models. With its stylish design, spacious interior, and impressive performance, the Tavascan is a promising addition to Cupra’s lineup.
