Tesla has recently introduced a new version of the Cybertruck RWD, priced at $70,000 in the US and Mexico. This version comes with a higher price tag compared to the previously announced model but boasts an extended range. The Cybertruck Long Range features a single rear-wheel-drive motor, offering 350 miles of range on a single charge, a significant increase from the initial 250 miles that was announced.
Initially unveiled in the Middle East as the Cybertruck Long Range, Tesla has now made this model available for orders in the US and Mexico. Priced at $70,000 before incentives, this version offers 100 more miles on a single charge compared to the previous model, making it a tempting option for those looking for an electric pickup truck with an extended range.
Despite the increased range, the Cybertruck Long Range RWD does come with some trade-offs. It lacks a second motor, as well as features such as the powered tonneau. However, Tesla does offer a “soft tonneau” option for $750, which can increase the range to 362 miles. Additionally, this model does not include the adaptive suspension, the lightbar at the back, the rear screen, and even the bed outlets, as listed on Tesla’s website.
Tesla has announced that deliveries of the Cybertruck Long Range RWD are set to begin in June. It is worth noting that the previously announced $61,000 Cybertruck model may not come to fruition, as the company may opt for a single battery pack size due to low production volume. This new version could potentially serve as a more affordable alternative to the $80,000 Cybertruck, offering a balance between price and performance.
While the Cybertruck Long Range RWD may appeal to some customers looking for an electric pickup truck with an extended range, the lack of essential features such as AWD, tonneau, adaptive suspension, and bed outlets may deter potential buyers. At a price point of $70,000, it remains to be seen how well this version will fare in the market, especially considering the availability of a $7,500 tax credit for eligible buyers.
