Tesla is rumored to be working on a new electric car model that is expected to be priced below $30,000. Reports suggest that the new vehicle, possibly named ‘Model Q,’ will be unveiled in the first half of 2025.
Earlier this year, Elon Musk had reportedly scrapped plans for a cheaper Tesla vehicle based on a new platform. Instead, the company is focusing on two new vehicle programs that will incorporate some features of the new platform but will primarily be based on the Model 3/Y platform.
The new vehicles are expected to be more affordable than the current Model 3/Y models, which start at $43,000 before incentives. They are set to be released in the first half of 2025.
Recent reports from China suggest that Tesla still plans to introduce a new vehicle on the unboxed platform, possibly named ‘Model Q.’ The vehicle is said to be codenamed “Redwood” and will be 15% smaller and 30% lighter than the Model 3. It is rumored to come with a LFP battery pack in 53 kWh and 75 kWh configurations, as well as single and dual-motor variants. The price is expected to be less than $30,000.
However, there is skepticism surrounding these reports. It would be unusual for Tesla’s head of investor relations to reveal such information to a bank. Additionally, Tesla has confirmed that it currently has no plans to produce a vehicle on the unboxed platform, apart from the Cybercab.
Despite the uncertainties, the possibility of a new, more affordable Tesla model is exciting for the electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for more updates on the potential launch of the ‘Model Q’ and share your thoughts in the comments section below.
