Tesla raises Model S/X prices, but bundles ‘Full Self-Driving’ and brings back free Supercharging

Tesla recently announced a price increase of $10,000 for their Model S and Model X vehicles, but with this increase comes a bundle of added features that aim to enhance the luxury experience for customers. The new ‘Luxe Package’ now includes the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, free Supercharging for life, Premium Connectivity, and a Four-year Premium Service plan.

The inclusion of the FSD package, previously priced at $8,000, brings advanced driver assistance features to the Model S and Model X vehicles. While Tesla envisions FSD evolving into fully autonomous driving capabilities in the future, it currently operates as a level 2 driver assistance system. Additionally, the Four-year Premium Service plan covers maintenance services such as tire and windshield protection, wheel alignment, tire rotations, front camera cleaning, and replacement of filters and wiper blades.

Tesla has also reintroduced free Supercharging for life as part of the Luxe Package. This perk, which was previously offered as a sales incentive, allows customers to charge for free at Tesla-owned Superchargers worldwide. However, the free Supercharging cannot be used for commercial purposes, such as taxi or rideshare services, and is non-transferable to subsequent vehicle owners.

Premium Connectivity, another feature included in the Luxe Package, provides access to high-bandwidth features like live traffic visualization, satellite-view maps, and video streaming. This feature, which typically costs $10 per month or $100 per year, enhances the overall user experience for Tesla owners.

While the added features offer significant value, the price increase for the Model S and Model X is substantial. The Model S now starts at $94,990, with the Plaid version priced at $109,990. The Model X starts at $99,990 and goes up to $114,990 for the Plaid version. This move by Tesla appears to position the Model S and Model X as luxury vehicles with premium features and services.

Overall, the new Luxe Package represents a shift towards a more luxurious and feature-rich ownership experience for Tesla customers. The added value of included features such as FSD, free Supercharging, Premium Connectivity, and the Four-year Premium Service plan may appeal to those looking for a high-end electric vehicle option.
