Tesla is issuing a recall in China for over 77,000 locally produced electric vehicles due to a software glitch affecting the tire pressure monitoring system. The affected models include the Model 3 and Model Y with production dates between September 28, 2021, and November 22, 2024. Some vehicles may not immediately display a malfunction with the monitoring system, posing a potential safety risk.
To address this issue, Tesla will upgrade the software for the recalled vehicles using over-the-air (OTA) technology at no cost to the owners. For vehicles that cannot be updated through OTA, Tesla will coordinate the recall through its service centers to ensure the necessary software upgrades are implemented.
In addition to the local recalls, Tesla is recalling 63 imported Model S and Model X electric vehicles produced between November 20, 2024, and November 26, 2024. The recall is due to a potential issue with the driver’s frontal airbag, where the fabric may be damaged during assembly. In extreme cases, the airbag may fail to deploy properly in a crash, compromising the driver’s safety.
Tesla will replace the driver’s frontal airbag in the affected imported vehicles free of charge to eliminate any safety concerns. Owners of the recalled vehicles are advised to contact Tesla service centers for further instructions on how to proceed with the necessary replacements.
This latest round of recalls underscores Tesla’s commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of its vehicles for customers in China. By promptly addressing these issues and providing solutions to affected owners, Tesla continues to uphold its reputation as a leader in the electric vehicle market.
