Tesla has big plans for its electric semi-truck, including the deployment of a public charging network specifically designed for the Tesla Semi. According to a recent presentation at the ACT Expo, Tesla’s head of the Semi program, Dan Priestley, shared some exciting new details about the highly anticipated electric truck.

One of the most impressive statistics revealed during the presentation is that Tesla Semi trucks have collectively traveled an astounding 7.9 million miles. Priestley also mentioned that over 26 Tesla Semi trucks have individually traveled more than 100,000 miles each, showcasing the durability and reliability of these electric vehicles.

In addition to the impressive mileage figures, Tesla also confirmed that the Tesla Semi will be equipped with a 25 kW Power Take Off (PTO) at the back of the truck, allowing it to power external systems such as refrigerated trailers. This feature will undoubtedly enhance the practicality and versatility of the Tesla Semi for commercial trucking applications.

Priestley also shed light on Tesla’s plans to expand its charging network for the Tesla Semi. While Tesla currently operates the extensive Supercharger network for passenger electric vehicles, the company is now focusing on developing Megachargers specifically designed for electric semi trucks. By early 2027, Tesla aims to deploy 46 Megacharging stations as part of its public charging network, enabling long-haul trucking with the electric truck.

The presentation also touched on Tesla’s production timeline for the Tesla Semi. Despite initial delays, the automaker is now targeting volume production of the semi-truck in 2026. While Tesla has faced challenges in delivering on its promised range and capacity, it seems that the company is on track to meet these targets, albeit at a higher price point than initially anticipated.

Overall, Tesla’s plans for the Tesla Semi are ambitious and promising. With a focus on building a dedicated charging network for electric semi trucks and a commitment to delivering a high-quality and reliable product, Tesla is poised to revolutionize the commercial trucking industry with its electric semi-truck.
