Tesla to resume Chinese parts shipment

Tesla is making moves to resume shipping components from China to the US for Cybercab and Semi truck production by the end of this month, according to a recent report by Reuters. This decision comes in the wake of a recent truce between the US and China over tariffs, highlighting the immediate impact of the trade de-escalation between the two economic powerhouses.

The halt in shipping components was initially prompted by a tariff increase to 145% imposed by US President Donald Trump, which posed a threat to Tesla’s production plans for the Cybercab and Semi models. However, with the recent agreement to roll back most tariffs and countermeasures, Tesla is now looking to move forward with its production plans.

While the situation remains fluid due to the unpredictable nature of the Trump administration, Tesla is gearing up to begin trial production of the Cybercab and Semi models in October, with mass production scheduled for 2026. The Cybercab will be manufactured in Texas, while the Semi will be produced in Nevada.

In addition to its production plans, Tesla is also seeking state approvals for a robotaxi service using Cybercabs without traditional steering wheels or control pedals. The company aims to start production by 2026 at a price point below $30,000.

Moreover, Tesla is looking to ramp up Semi truck production in 2026 and accelerate deliveries to customers like PepsiCo. CEO Elon Musk, a vocal advocate for free trade, has expressed his opposition to tariffs and has been pushing for lower tariffs to support the company’s manufacturing goals.

Despite the challenges posed by tariffs, Tesla reported a 20% decline in first-quarter revenues for 2025, with total automotive revenues at $13.97 billion compared to $17.38 billion in the same period the previous year.

As Tesla navigates the shifting tariff landscape, the company remains focused on innovation and growth in the electric vehicle market. With plans for the Cybercab, Semi truck, and robotaxi service on the horizon, Tesla is poised to make a significant impact in the automotive industry in the coming years.
