Toyota is set to launch two new electric SUVs based on the RAV4 and Land Cruiser models. These electric vehicles are part of Toyota’s plan to shift production and focus on electric vehicles. The RAV4 and Land Cruiser EVs will replace a luxury Lexus model as Toyota consolidates its production plans.
Reports have been circulating for some time about Toyota’s plans to build new electric SUVs in Kentucky. Earlier this year, Toyota confirmed that it intends to produce two all-new, three-row battery electric SUVs in the US. Originally planned to be built in Indiana, the production of these electric SUVs will now take place at Toyota Kentucky.
According to a recent report from Nikkei, the new electric SUVs will be based on the popular Toyota RAV4 and Land Cruiser models. These electric SUVs will replace the Lexus ES sedan, which is currently manufactured in Kentucky. The next-generation Lexus ES will be produced in Japan and exported to the US, as part of Toyota’s plan to consolidate production.
Toyota responded to the report by stating that while they have not publicly announced these changes, they are reviewing production plans to improve their cars. The RAV4 and Land Cruiser EVs are expected to be among the seven new electric models that Toyota will launch in the US by mid-2027.
In addition to the RAV4 and Land Cruiser EVs, Toyota will introduce the C-HR and bZ Woodland crossover SUVs in 2026, following the launch of the updated bZ electric SUV. Toyota Motor North America’s vice president, David Christ, emphasized that the company is preparing to launch new battery electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the coming years.
Overall, Toyota’s shift towards electric vehicles reflects the growing trend in the automotive industry towards sustainable and environmentally-friendly transportation options. With the launch of these new electric SUVs, Toyota is positioning itself as a key player in the electric vehicle market.
