Despite its high price, the Li L9 managed to sell an impressive 85,817 units in China last year. This large SUV boasts a 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE acting as a generator, with dual-motor 4WD and a peak power of 330 kW (443 hp). The Li L9 offers a range of 280 km in electric mode and a total mixed range of 1,412 km.
Next up is the GWM Tank 700 Hi4-T off-road SUV, which takes the ninth spot on the list with a starting price of 428,000 yuan (59,020 USD). This rugged SUV, often compared to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, features a 3-liter V6 engine paired with an e-motor for a total output of 265 kW (355 hp). With a 37.1-kWh ternary battery, the Tank 700 Hi4-T offers 100 km of NEDC electric range.
The eighth position is held by the Nio ES7 mid-size electric SUV, priced at 438,000 yuan (60,400 USD). Despite its high price, the Nio ES7 only managed to sell 1,874 units in China in 2024. This five-seat crossover comes with a dual-motor 4WD system, offering a range of 485 km with a 75-kWh battery pack.
Moving on to the seventh spot is the Nio EC7 SUV-coupe sibling of the ES7, priced at 458,000 yuan (63,160 USD). With 2,865 units sold in China last year, the Nio EC7 shares the same powertrain as the ES7, providing a range of 490 km with a 75 kWh battery pack.
The sixth position goes to the Aito M9 crossover from Huawei and Seres, priced at 469,800 yuan (65,785 USD). This hot-selling SUV sold a remarkable 156,051 units in 2024, making it the best-selling model on the list. With a dual-motor 4WD system and a 100 kWh ternary NMC battery, the Aito M9 offers a range of 630 km in electric mode.
The fifth spot is occupied by the Nio ES8, priced at 498,000 yuan (68,675 USD). With 9,188 units sold in China last year, the Nio ES8 is a six-seat crossover with a dual-motor 4WD system and a range of 465 km with a 75-kWh battery pack.
FAW’s Hongqi E-HS9 takes the fourth place on the list with a starting price of 589,800 yuan (81,335 USD). Despite entering the market in December 2020, the E-HS9 only managed to sell 1,015 units in 2024. This luxury SUV offers a range of 690 km with a 120 kWh battery pack.
The third spot is claimed by Dongfeng’s M-Hero 917, priced at 637,700 yuan (87,940 USD). Although the sales volume is unknown, the M-Hero 917 is an off-road SUV with four electric motors and a range of 505 km in electric mode.
In second place is the M-Hero M800, a tuned variant of the M-Hero 917, priced at 879,000 yuan (121,215 USD). With similar specifications to the M-Hero 917, the M-Hero M800 offers a luxurious driving experience.
Finally, the most expensive Chinese new energy SUV is the Yangwang U8 from BYD, priced at 1,098,000 yuan (151,415 USD). With 7,366 units sold in 2024, the Yangwang U8 features four electric motors with a combined power of 880 kW (1,180 hp) and a range of 780 km.
These high-end Chinese SUVs showcase the rapid advancements in the Chinese automotive industry and challenge the stereotype of Chinese cars being low-quality and cheap.
