Japan’s leading automaker Toyota Motor Corporation has experienced disruptions in production due to an explosion and fire at a plant owned by Chuo Spring Company Ltd, a supplier of suspension parts. The incident, which resulted in injuries to two employees, forced Toyota to suspend operations on three production lines at two vehicle assembly plants in Aichi Prefecture.
The affected plants include the Takaoka plant in Toyota City, responsible for manufacturing the popular RAV4 and Harrier SUVs, as well as Toyota Industries’ Nagakusa plant in Obu, which produces the RAV4 SUV. The duration of the suspension in production has not been disclosed by the automaker.
The explosion, which occurred at a dust collector in Chuo Spring’s Fujioka plant in Toyota, led to the halt of production on two suspension spring lines. The company has not yet announced a timeline for resuming operations at the affected plant.
This incident marks the second such accident at Chuo Spring in two years. In 2023, an explosion and fire at one of the company’s facilities resulted in Toyota halting production on 13 lines at eight domestic vehicle assembly plants.
The impact of these disruptions on Toyota’s production and supply chain highlights the importance of maintaining a resilient and secure manufacturing ecosystem. As Toyota works to address the challenges posed by the recent incident, industry observers will be closely monitoring the company’s response and recovery efforts.
