Toyota Teases Revival of MR2 and Celica Alongside GR86 and GR Supra

Toyota has dropped a major hint that it is gearing up to bring back the iconic MR2 and Celica models, in addition to refreshing the GR86 and GR Supra.

In a recent episode of their self-published cartoon series, Grip, a whiteboard can be seen with a list of new models that includes a Supra Mk6, Celica Mk8, MR2 Mk4, GR86 Mk3, and GR GT3. This teaser has sparked excitement among fans of Toyota’s sports cars.

While these new models have not been officially confirmed by Toyota, the mention in the cartoon suggests that the Gazoo Racing lineup is set for a significant expansion in the near future.

Toyota’s chairman, Akio Toyoda, has been vocal about his desire to revive what he refers to as the “three brothers” – the Celica, MR2, and Supra. This hints at a potential resurgence of these classic models in the coming years.

Reports suggest that Toyota is considering the production of a new Celica, possibly using an electric car platform that offers flexibility and performance capabilities. The FT-Se concept, showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show, exemplifies the brand’s commitment to creating cutting-edge sports cars with a focus on low seat height and dynamic design.

Furthermore, Toyota is exploring the possibility of introducing a cab-forward two-seat sports car inspired by the MR2. While it may not carry the MR2 name, this model is expected to capture the spirit of the beloved sports car and compete with vehicles like the Mazda MX-5.

Overall, Toyota’s plans for the future of its sports car lineup are shaping up to be exciting and innovative. With a mix of classic models and new concepts on the horizon, enthusiasts can look forward to a new era of performance vehicles from the Japanese automaker.
