Toyota Motor Corporation recently announced its plans to construct a new vehicle manufacturing plant in Japan, despite the recent import tariff hikes in the US. The decision is aimed at maintaining the company’s vehicle production capacity in Japan at around 3 million units per year. The new facility will be located in the Teihoucho area of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, and Toyota is working closely with stakeholders including Aichi Prefecture and Toyota City authorities and local residents to acquire the necessary land.
Scheduled to begin operations in the early 2030s, Toyota has yet to finalize the models that will be produced at the new plant. The automaker is focused on creating a state-of-the-art facility that utilizes cutting-edge technology and provides an inclusive environment for a diverse workforce to thrive. Toyota currently operates eight vehicle production plants in Japan, manufacturing models under the Toyota, Lexus, and Daihatsu brands, as well as producing vehicles for other brands like Mazda through product sharing partnerships. Additionally, Toyota owns Hino Motors, a major commercial vehicle manufacturer in Japan.
