Vauxhall Grandland Electric gains 4WD variant with 321bhp

The Vauxhall Grandland Electric has introduced a new dual-motor variant, marking a significant milestone as the first electric vehicle from the British brand to feature all-wheel drive technology. This new SUV model shares its powertrain with the Peugeot e-3008 and Peugeot e-5008, utilizing a combination of a front-mounted 210bhp motor and a rear-mounted 111bhp motor to deliver a total output of 321bhp and 375lb ft of torque.

One of the key benefits of this dual-motor system is the enhanced grip and stability it provides, particularly when driving off-road, making it a formidable competitor to the Ford Explorer. A new AWD mode has been introduced to keep both motors engaged continuously, delivering maximum power when needed. In Normal mode, the front motor takes precedence, with the rear motor activating based on driver input.

To further enhance the driving experience, the range-topping Grandland Electric comes equipped with adaptive dampers as standard, ensuring optimal comfort across various road conditions. The 73kWh battery remains unchanged from the standard model, offering up to 311 miles on a single charge in its most efficient front-wheel drive setting. However, the range for the dual-motor configuration has yet to be confirmed by Vauxhall.

In terms of design, the dual-motor Grandland Electric features subtle enhancements to improve aerodynamics, including front and rear bumper inserts and new 20-inch aero wheels that reduce drag coefficient. Deliveries for this new variant are set to commence in September, with pricing details yet to be announced. However, it is expected to be positioned above the current range-topping single-motor Ultimate model priced at £39,000.

Overall, the Vauxhall Grandland Electric’s dual-motor variant represents a significant leap forward in terms of performance, capability, and design, solidifying its position as a top contender in the electric SUV market.
