Volkswagen Group has announced a collaboration with Valeo and Mobileye to enhance the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in its future vehicles. This initiative is set to improve safety and driving comfort in high-volume vehicles based on the modular transverse toolkit (MQB) platform, aiming for level 2+ (âenhanced partially automated drivingâ) capabilities.
Dirk GroĂe-Loheide, Volkswagenâs extended executive committee member, highlighted the benefits of this partnership, stating that it streamlines procurement, reduces complexity, and improves efficiency. By sourcing hardware and software together, Volkswagen aims to enhance technology while keeping costs competitive, ultimately providing high-quality solutions for customers.
The collaboration will introduce hands-free driving on specific highway sections, along with features such as traffic jam assist, hazard detection, parking assist, driver monitoring, and 360-degree emergency assist. Augmented reality displays will also be part of the future-ready enhancements.
The upgraded system will include a 360-degree array of cameras and radars, along with software-defined capabilities, enabling hands-free driving on approved roads, smart parking, and enhanced safety for occupants and pedestrians. Valeo will contribute high-performance electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and software for parking solutions, while Mobileye will bring its Surround ADAS platform featuring the EyeQ6 high processor and mapping technologies to the table.
This marks the first integration of these components into a single system. Valeo BRAIN Division CEO Marc Vrecko expressed excitement about offering Volkswagen a complete solution of affordable, state-of-the-art, advanced driving features for end-users.
In other news, Volkswagen Group reported a slight increase in full-year 2024 sales revenue, reaching âŹ324.7bn ($353.7bn), driven by growth in its financial services business. The collaboration with Valeo and Mobileye is a strategic move to further enhance the driving experience for Volkswagen customers in the coming years.
