Volkswagen ID 3 to get another extensive facelift

Volkswagen is gearing up for a second facelift for the ID 3 electric hatchback to keep it fresh until it is replaced by the electric Golf in 2028. The upgraded ID 3, set to launch in the UK in 2026, will feature a bolder front-end design and higher-quality interior trims to stay competitive in the market.

The facelift comes as Volkswagen prepares to start pilot production of the smaller ID 2 and its sister model, the Cupra Raval, at Seat’s Martorell plant in Spain. With the ID 2 and Raval getting ready to make their debut, Volkswagen is ensuring that the ID 3 remains a strong contender in the electric vehicle segment.

This will be the second facelift for the ID 3 since its introduction in 2020, with deeper changes compared to the previous update in 2023. The front end of the ID 3 will undergo a complete redesign, inspired by the design language of the ID 2 and ID GTI Concept models. Volkswagen’s design chief, Andreas Mindt, aims to make the new electric models more inviting with a departure from the clinical designs of earlier ID models.

In addition to the exterior changes, the interior of the facelifted ID 3 will also see significant updates. The dashboard design, including buttons and switches, will be borrowed from the ID 2, replacing the divisive touch-sensitive sliders and touch controls. A redesigned steering wheel and higher-quality materials for the doors and trim will enhance the overall feel of the cabin.

While details about any drivetrain changes remain undisclosed, the ID 3 is expected to benefit from any new developments introduced in the ID 2 to improve overall efficiency. The facelifted ID 3 aims to offer a more dynamic and premium driving experience, keeping pace with the evolving electric vehicle market.
