German car manufacturer Volkswagen has partnered with French software group Dassault Systèmes to enhance its digital infrastructure for vehicle development. The collaboration will involve the implementation of Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform by Volkswagen to improve the engineering and manufacturing stages of its vehicles through the use of virtual twins.
Engineers and designers from Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche will leverage virtual twins to streamline the vehicle development process. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will be deployed in the cloud and serve as the core engineering and manufacturing system for Volkswagen Group. This platform will provide a collaborative virtual environment where teams can simulate, test, and refine vehicles efficiently.
Hauke Stars, Volkswagen Group IT board member, stated, “We are advancing the development of our next-generation IT system landscape, and the decision to partner with Dassault Systèmes marks an important milestone. With consistent data streams and AI solutions, we are creating a technological leap for our teams in development and factory planning while reducing IT costs and accelerating processes.”
Volkswagen Group plans to utilize four Dassault Systèmes industry solution experiences, including “Global Modular Architecture,” “Smart, Safe and Connected,” “Efficient Multi-Energy Platform,” and “On-Target Vehicle Launch.” Dassault Systèmes CEO Pascal Daloz expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “After four decades of partnership rooted in innovation and trust, we’re now embarking on the next chapter with Volkswagen Group with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform at its core. Our AI-powered virtual twins will unify Volkswagen Group’s hardware and software innovation, accelerating its software-driven transformation.”
In recent news, Volkswagen is considering sharing its excess production lines in Europe with Chinese electric vehicle makers due to decreased demand and heightened competition. This move could potentially lead to Chinese manufacturers taking over idle production lines, especially in Germany.
The collaboration between Volkswagen and Dassault Systèmes signifies a significant step towards enhancing digital processes in vehicle development. By leveraging virtual twins and advanced software solutions, Volkswagen aims to optimize its engineering and manufacturing capabilities for future vehicle models.
