Volkswagen Group has recently announced an expansion of its collaboration with Horizon Robotics, a Chinese technology firm, in the field of advanced intelligent driving technologies. The German automaker has made a strategic decision to incorporate Horizon’s full-scenario smart driving solution, Horizon SuperDrive (HSD), into its upcoming generation of vehicles.
Recognizing Horizon as a key player in providing computing solutions for smart vehicles in China, Volkswagen initiated a partnership with the company back in 2023. This collaboration led to the establishment of CARIZON, a joint venture between Volkswagen’s software subsidiary, CARIAD, and Horizon Robotics. The main objective of CARIZON is to accelerate the development of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) systems specifically tailored for the Chinese market, in alignment with Volkswagen’s “in China, for China” strategy.
With a team of around 500 engineers, CARIZON is currently focused on developing a Level 2+ autonomous driving system based on Horizon Robotics’s Journey 6 chip. The latest development in this partnership involves the adoption of Horizon’s HSD system. This innovative system integrates hardware and software seamlessly, offering an end-to-end software framework that promises a “human-like” driving experience. The HSD system is designed to provide a balance between traffic driving efficiency and smooth, composed handling, enhancing the overall driving experience for users.
As Volkswagen and Horizon Robotics continue to collaborate and innovate in the realm of intelligent driving technologies, the automotive industry can expect to witness further advancements in smart vehicle solutions. The integration of cutting-edge technologies like the HSD system into Volkswagen’s future vehicles demonstrates the company’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art driving experiences to its customers. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting partnership and the groundbreaking developments it brings to the automotive market.
