The European market for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) saw a decline in registrations in 2024. Despite this, there were some standout models that performed exceptionally well. Let’s take a closer look at the key highlights from the full-year results.
In 2024, BEV deliveries in Europe dropped by 1% compared to the previous year, with over two million all-electric models hitting the roads. The Tesla Model Y emerged as the top-selling BEV in the region, with 210,504 deliveries. It held a 10.5% market share, despite a 17.4% decrease in sales compared to 2023. Following closely behind was the Tesla Model 3, which recorded 113,958 units, marking a 12.5% increase from the previous year.
The Skoda Enyaq secured the third spot with 79,373 deliveries, followed by the Volvo EX30 and the Audi Q4 e-Tron. The Volkswagen (VW) ID.4 and ID.3 also made it to the top 10 list, showcasing the dominance of VW Group in the BEV market.
On the PHEV front, the Volvo XC60 emerged as the best-selling model in Europe in 2024, with 58,662 registrations. The Ford Kuga and Mercedes-Benz GLC took the second and third positions, respectively. The BMW X1 and Cupra Formentor also performed well, rounding out the top five PHEVs in the region.
In December 2024, the Tesla Model Y continued its reign as the top-selling BEV, with 28,708 deliveries, followed by the Model 3 and the Skoda Enyaq. The Volvo XC60 led the PHEV segment in December, with 6,463 registrations, showcasing its strong performance in the market.
