Why Ford scrubbed the four-cylinder Mustang

The seventh generation Ford Mustang is a dream car for many, especially with its powerful 5.0-litre V8 engine. While other markets have the option of a four-cylinder engine, Ford of Europe made the smart decision to only import models with the V8 powerhouse. This move was based on the lack of interest in the previous generation’s four-cylinder turbo engine in key European markets like Britain and Germany.

The new Mustang boasts impressive power outputs, with two variants offering the same torque but slightly different horsepower levels due to emissions regulations. The manual transmission is standard across all models, with an optional 10-speed automatic transmission available. The Dark Horse trim, with a big decklid spoiler, offers a slightly more powerful version of the V8 engine compared to the GT trim.

Visually, the new Mustang stays true to its iconic design, with subtle branding and classic Mustang features like the rear light units inspired by Frank Bullitt’s car. The interior is a blend of modern and classic design elements, with a long, curved digital display and Ford’s SYNC 4 system. The manual gearbox adds to the driving experience, while the rear seats provide surprising space for a coupe.

Production-wise, the gasoline-powered Mustang still outnumbers the Mach-E electric crossover, with the former being manufactured in Michigan and the latter in Mexico. Despite the differences between the two models, the Mustang GT offers a driving experience that is hard to match, with precise steering and a range of exhaust modes for customization.

Overall, the Ford Mustang GT is a thrilling car to own, with stunning performance, a stylish design, and a range of features that make it a joy to drive. The range consists of three variants, with prices starting from GBP58,470. Additionally, Ford is set to introduce a supercharged special edition, the GTD, with over 800 horsepower, as well as a rumored four-door sedan variant called the Mustang Mach 4.

In conclusion, the Ford Mustang GT is a true muscle car icon that continues to impress with its performance and style. The upcoming special editions and variants only add to the excitement surrounding this legendary vehicle.
