Wiesmann’s Project Thunderball EV Still on Track Despite Delays
German sports car manufacturer Wiesmann is staying true to its promise of returning to the market with its highly anticipated Project Thunderball EV, despite facing significant delays along the way.
The electric roadster was initially unveiled in 2022, marking a significant milestone for Wiesmann, which had been acquired by Contec Global six years prior. The Project Thunderball EV was set to hit the market in 2024 with a price tag of £252k.
This electrifying roadster boasts a powerful duo of electric motors on its rear axle, delivering a total of 671bhp and 811lb ft of torque. With such impressive specs, the 1.7-tonne roadster can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds.
Equipped with an 83kWh battery (usable capacity), the Project Thunderball EV claims to offer a range of 311 miles, ensuring that drivers can enjoy extended drives without worrying about running out of juice.
Autocar had the opportunity to test drive a prototype of the Project Thunderball EV in 2022 and praised its performance, noting a perfect balance between sheer power and engaging driver experience.
Addressing the delays faced by the company, Wiesmann’s strategy chief Jaspreet Ahuja cited supply chain challenges as a major factor, further exacerbated by the uncertainties surrounding changes in tariffs affecting manufacturers like Wiesmann.
Despite these challenges, Ahuja reassured enthusiasts that Wiesmann remains steadfast in its commitment to bringing the Thunderball to life, expressing optimism about providing an update by the end of the year.
