Xiaomi EV, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, has announced partnerships with Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto for access to their charging networks. This move comes after 14 other brands had already joined Nio’s charging network.
The announcement was made on Weibo, where Xiaomi EV shared that it had also partnered with charging facility operators such as Towatt, Xiaoju, YKC, and Sunnic. The company hinted at more partnerships to come in the future.
This news was revealed alongside the details of the 1.4.5 OTA system update for the Xiaomi SU7, the company’s first electric sedan. The SU7 was officially launched in March and deliveries began in April. Xiaomi EV has set ambitious targets for vehicle deliveries, aiming to reach 130,000 units by the end of 2024.
As one of the newer entrants in China’s EV market, Xiaomi EV has yet to establish its own network of charging facilities. In contrast, Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto have already built extensive charging networks across the country.
Nio, in particular, boasts the widest coverage of charging facilities among Chinese EV makers. With over 2,500 supercharging stations and 1,600 destination charging stations, Nio offers a comprehensive charging solution for its customers. The company also operates a significant number of battery swap stations, further enhancing the convenience of charging for EV owners.
Xpeng and Li Auto have also made significant strides in expanding their charging networks. Xpeng currently operates nearly 1,800 charging stations in China, while Li Auto has over 1,300 supercharging stations. Despite facing challenges in meeting its target of 2,000 supercharging stations by the end of 2024, Li Auto remains committed to expanding its charging infrastructure.
The partnership between Xiaomi EV and established EV brands like Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto underscores the collaborative nature of the EV industry in China. By leveraging each other’s strengths and networks, these companies aim to provide a seamless charging experience for EV owners nationwide.
Overall, Xiaomi EV’s entry into Nio’s charging network marks a significant step forward for the company as it seeks to establish itself as a key player in China’s rapidly growing EV market.
