Xiaomi raises delivery target yet again for its new EV, as ‘demand surges’

China’s Xiaomi has been making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market, with a recent report indicating a 30.5% growth in third-quarter revenue for its EV business. The company has also increased its yearly delivery target for the SU7 series EVs to 130,000 units, showcasing its strong performance in the EV sector.

In May, Xiaomi announced its plan to build 100,000 EVs by the end of the year, and it seems to be well on track to achieve this goal. CEO Lei Jun revealed on social media that due to increased demand, the company is now aiming to produce 120,000 units of its first EV. The SU7 series, which includes the Standard, Pro, and Max versions, has been a hit in the market, with the Standard model priced strategically to be $4,000 cheaper than Tesla’s Model 3 in China.

The company introduced the SU7 last December, with the official launch taking place in March. Since then, Xiaomi has seen significant success with the SU7, surpassing production goals and delivering 39,790 units in the third quarter alone. The company has now delivered a total of 67,157 units from March to September, indicating strong consumer interest in its EV offerings.

Looking ahead, Xiaomi is planning to expand its EV factory by mid-2025 to further increase production capacity. The company aims to deliver 400,000 EVs in 2025, with the EV business expected to contribute significantly to its overall revenue. While analysts have predicted that Xiaomi may incur losses of around $10,000 per vehicle, the company’s healthy cash reserve of $15 billion provides a cushion to navigate any financial challenges.

Xiaomi’s success in the EV market can be attributed to its strong brand appeal and competitive pricing, as well as its expertise in software and autonomous driving technology. The company has been investing heavily in building its EV empire, with plans to expand its presence in key cities across China.

As Xiaomi continues to expand its EV offerings and production capacity, it is poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly growing EV market. With a focus on innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction, Xiaomi is well-positioned to emerge as a key player in the global EV industry.
