Xiaomi SU7 Ultra pre-orders open ahead of launch, expected at 112,500 USD

Xiaomi’s highly anticipated SU7 Ultra is now available for pre-order on their website, with the official launch set for October 29th alongside the unveiling of the 15 series smartphones. The price tag for this cutting-edge electric vehicle is expected to be around 800,000 yuan (112,500 USD), as projected by Goldman Sachs.

CEO Lei Jun introduced the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype back in July, showcasing the company’s most advanced electric vehicle to date. The prototype boasted a remarkable three-motor system, featuring two V8s motors and one V6s motor, delivering a combined output of an impressive 1,138 kW (1,526 hp). The production model is estimated to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h. Although the prototype flaunted a full-carbon body, the production version will forgo this feature due to cost considerations, according to Lei.

The battery pack for the SU7 Ultra is provided by CATL and is known as the Qilin 2.0, which was unveiled in June and is scheduled for launch in Q4. This innovative battery boasts a CTB (Cell-to-Body) format, seamlessly integrated into the vehicle’s structure for enhanced rigidity and interior space. With a capacity of 150 kWh and a maximum output of 1,330 kW, the battery can still deliver over 800 kW even at a 20% charge, ensuring reliable performance. Furthermore, the battery is equipped with a dual-surface cooling system, boosting cooling efficiency by 60%, a crucial feature for high-speed driving.

CATL has claimed that the Qilin 2.0 battery is designed for 6C ultra-fast charging, promising swift and efficient charging capabilities. Xiaomi recently attempted to test the SU7 Ultra Prototype at the renowned Nürburgring track, known for its challenging conditions. Unfortunately, the event faced setbacks due to rain, preventing the team from completing a lap. Despite this setback, Lei Jun remains committed to Xiaomi’s foray into high-performance motorsports.

The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is slated for an early 2025 release. With its combination of power, advanced battery technology, and track-ready design, the SU7 Ultra is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive high-performance electric vehicle market.
