Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) recently introduced the 2025 X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and initiated its pre-sales, showcasing enhanced features but with a higher price tag. The starting price for the 2025 X9 is set at RMB 399,800 ($54,500), which marks an increase of RMB 40,000 or 11.12 percent from its predecessor’s RMB 359,800 starting price.
The company has strategically set the higher pre-sales price as a potential marketing tactic to potentially pave the way for a price reduction at the official launch event. The model is scheduled to be officially launched next week, with customers who place a RMB 2,000 intent deposit before the launch date eligible for a RMB 5,000 discount when finalizing the purchase.
Show cars of the 2025 X9 are already available at over 500 Xpeng stores across 214 cities in China. The updated model boasts hardware upgrades valued at up to RMB 80,000, aimed at enhancing comfort for users. Xpeng has indicated that the new X9 incorporates a total of 496 upgrades, with 35 percent of these being design and component enhancements.
Constructed on an 800-volt high-voltage electrical platform, the 2025 X9 offers an impressive range of up to 740 km and consumes as low as 16.2 kWh of energy per 100 km. With dimensions measuring 5,293 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height, the vehicle features a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. Additionally, the X9 supports rear-wheel steering and boasts a turning radius as low as 5.4 meters for improved driving agility.
Customers can choose between single-motor and dual-motor models, with the single-motor version featuring an electric motor with a maximum output of 235 kW, while the dual-motor version includes an additional electric motor with a peak power of 135 kW.
The updated X9 has transitioned away from the LiDAR technology present in its predecessor, aligning with Xpeng’s shift towards a vision-based smart driving solution. Equipped with the Turing AI smart driving system, the X9 joins the ranks of the updated G6 and G9 SUVs that were launched in the previous month.
Initially introduced on January 1, 2024, the X9 serves as Xpeng’s flagship model under its SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 2.0 framework and commands the highest price within the company’s lineup. In 2024, the X9 recorded a total of 21,653 deliveries, contributing 11.39 percent to Xpeng’s annual delivery figures of 190,068 units.
The release of the updated X9 is anticipated to positively impact Xpeng’s gross margins, particularly as the company has seen strong sales performance in recent months driven predominantly by the Mona M03 sedan. With the Mona M03 achieving monthly delivery figures exceeding 15,000 units from December to February, representing approximately 50 percent of Xpeng’s monthly deliveries, the X9’s revamp is expected to further bolster the company’s market position.
In March 2025, Xpeng reported a total of 33,205 vehicle deliveries, marking the fifth consecutive month in which the company surpassed the 30,000-unit delivery threshold. While specific breakdown figures for individual models were not disclosed, this achievement underscores Xpeng’s sustained momentum in the electric vehicle market.
