Xpeng G7: A New Contender in the SUV Market
A recent picture of an undisguised Xpeng G7 undergoing testing has surfaced on the Chinese Internet, creating quite a buzz among car enthusiasts. According to official claims, the new G7 is expected to be the most capable SUV in the 250,000 yuan class this year, with an estimated selling price of around 250,000 yuan (approximately 34,350 USD).
The leaked image only reveals the rear of the upcoming SUV, showcasing design elements reminiscent of the recently launched P7+. One notable difference is that the rear part of the tail light extends further into the tailgate than its predecessor.
The design of the G7 incorporates several features aimed at reducing drag coefficient, aligning with Xpeng’s focus on improving efficiency to enhance range. These features include hidden door handles and curved surfaces, emphasizing the company’s commitment to innovation.
The G7 will come equipped with Xpeng’s Hawk AI system, offering advanced self-driving capabilities through a vision-based approach. This system, first introduced in the P7+, will also be integrated into the Mona M03. Xpeng is also updating existing models like the G6, G9, and X9 to incorporate the new system while eliminating costly Lidar units.
With dimensions of 4892, 1925, 1655 mm (l/w/h) and a wheelbase of 2890 mm, the G7 will be Xpeng’s largest SUV, positioned to rival the Tesla Model Y alongside the smaller G6. Powering the G7 will be a 218KW electric motor supplied by Xpeng’s Wuhan division, paired with lithium iron phosphate batteries from CALB.
Spy shots of the G7’s interior suggest a layout similar to the P7+, hinting at a price point below 250,000 yuan. This competitive pricing strategy positions the G7 as a compelling option in the SUV market.
As Xpeng expands its SUV lineup, rumors suggest the imminent launch of the G01, a 6-seater flagship SUV slated for release this year. With continuous innovation and a growing product range, Xpeng is poised to make a significant impact in the automotive industry.
