Xpeng has officially unveiled its latest electric SUV, the G7, in China. With a starting price of just 195,800 yuan ($27,325 USD), the G7 enters the competitive electric crossover market, targeting the likes of the Tesla Model Y and the recently announced Xiaomi YU7.
The G7 is positioned as a value proposition, offering a blend of performance and technology at an attractive price point. Xpeng’s CEO, He Xiaopeng, directly compared the G7 to the Model Y, highlighting its specifications and pricing in relation to Tesla’s popular crossover.
Powered by a single rear-wheel-drive electric motor producing 292 horsepower, the G7 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. It boasts an impressive range of 602-702 km (374-436 miles) based on China’s CLTC standard, depending on the battery option and wheel size. The vehicle is equipped with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options, a 68.5 kWh, and an 80.8 kWh pack, both supporting Xpeng’s advanced 5C charging technology for rapid recharging.
The G7 features Xpeng’s second-generation “X Face” styling, with sleek running lights, a closed front end for aerodynamic efficiency, and a unique “Star Ring” taillight design. The vehicle’s aerodynamics are highlighted by a drag coefficient of just 0.238 Cd, slightly higher than the Model Y’s 0.230 Cd.
Inside, the G7 offers a minimalist design with a large 15.6-inch central touchscreen powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chipset. A standout feature is the 87-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) developed in collaboration with Huawei, enhancing navigation and driving assistance. The vehicle also prioritizes practicality with ample cargo space, including an 819-liter trunk that expands to 2,277 liters with the seats folded.
Luxury and convenience features include dual 50W wireless phone chargers, a premium audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. The top-tier “Ultra” variant boasts advanced Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities powered by proprietary Turing AI chips.
The Xpeng G7 lineup starts at 195,800 yuan for the base “Max” variant, with prices increasing for longer-range and high-end trims. Early customers of the G7 Ultra can enjoy complimentary upgrades such as Nappa leather and power door handles.
The G7 has already garnered significant interest, with 10,000 pre-orders secured in just 46 minutes. With its competitive pricing and impressive features, the G7 poses a serious challenge to established players in the premium crossover segment, signaling a shift in the Chinese electric vehicle market.
