Xpeng has recently unveiled its latest offering, the G7, a mid-size SUV that aims to compete with the Tesla Model Y in the electric vehicle market. With a starting price of RMB 195,800 ($27,320), the G7 is priced lower than the Model Y, making it an attractive option for consumers looking for a high-quality electric SUV at a more affordable price point.
The G7 comes in three variants – the 602 Max, 702 Max, and 702 Ultra – with prices ranging from RMB 195,800 to RMB 225,800. The SUV boasts impressive dimensions, with a length of 4,892 mm, width of 1,925 mm, height of 1,655 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, making it larger than the Model Y in terms of size.
One of the standout features of the G7 is its in-house developed Turing AI smart driving chip, which offers a computing power of up to 2,250 TOPS. This makes the G7 the EV model with the highest smart driving computing power to date and enables it to support advanced AI capabilities such as VLA and VLM large models, making it the first AI car with L3 computing power.
In addition to its advanced computing capabilities, the G7 also features an AR-HUD head-up display system co-developed by Xpeng and Huawei, as well as an AI chassis with pre-view functionality. The model is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform and features lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs that support a 5C charging rate.
The G7 offers impressive performance, with a range of up to 702 kilometers and the ability to charge from 0 to 80 percent in just 12 minutes. The SUV is equipped with a rear-wheel-drive single motor that delivers a peak power of 218 kW and a peak torque of 450 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.
With the launch of the G7, Xpeng aims to capture a larger share of the electric SUV market and compete more aggressively with Tesla in China. The company’s strong sales performance in the first half of the year, surpassing last year’s total deliveries, indicates that the G7 is well-positioned to help Xpeng achieve its goal of doubling its delivery volume compared to 2024.
