BYD’s high-end Yangwang brand has introduced its third car, the U7, which is now available for pre-sales at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Interested buyers can secure their purchase by putting down 20,000 yuan (2,800 USD). While the actual prices are yet to be revealed, it is expected to start at over 1 million yuan (138,400 USD).
The Yangwang U7 made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April and was expected to hit the market sooner. However, delays have kept it off the sales floor despite generating significant buzz. Reports suggest that the U7 will come equipped with the Blade 2.0 battery and boasts a tighter turning radius than the BYD Seagull, thanks to its intelligent rear-wheel steering system.
Measuring 5265mm in length, 1998mm in width, and 1517mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3160mm, the U7 is no lightweight at 3095kg. However, it packs a punch with a top speed of 270 km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, aided by its aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of 0.195 Cd.
Powered by four electric motors, each delivering 326 horsepower for a combined total of 1306 horsepower, the U7 promises impressive performance. With a range of 800 km and a 135.5 kWh blade battery, it also offers an alternative version with a range of 720 km. The car features the DiSus-Z suspension system, which allows for rapid suspension adjustments and battery energy recovery.
The interior of the U7 showcases a symmetrical design with embedded displays for both the driver and passenger, separated by a large vertically oriented infotainment screen. While details on the front seats are scarce, the car is expected to offer both red and brown interior options.
Two variants of the U7 are available, with four and five-seat configurations. The four-seater features a continuous center console with an LCD display controlling seat functions, while the five-seater has an additional display on the back of the center console. Despite the delays, there are hopes that deliveries will commence before the end of the year.
