Zeekr, a leading electric vehicle (EV) maker, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking charger with a peak power of 1.2 MW per charging gun. This cutting-edge technology is set to revolutionize the charging industry and will be showcased for the first time at the upcoming Shanghai auto show in April.
According to Zhao Yuhui, the vice president of Zeekr, this new charger is expected to deliver faster charging speeds than the 1 MW charger introduced by BYD earlier this month. Zeekr’s supercharger power has been steadily increasing over the past few years, from 360 kW to 800 kW, and now reaching an impressive 1.2 MW. This makes Zeekr’s charging power the highest in the world, setting a new standard for ultra-fast charging.
Zeekr’s energy unit, Zeekr Power, currently operates 826 supercharging stations with 4,007 superchargers available to EV owners. The company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge charging infrastructure is evident in its continuous efforts to enhance charging capabilities and expand its network of supercharging stations.
In comparison, BYD recently unveiled a supercharger with a peak power of 1 MW, capable of adding 400 km of range to an EV in just 5 minutes. This marks a significant milestone in the industry, with BYD leading the way in ultra-fast charging technology.
BYD has also announced plans to build more than 4,000 supercharging stations that support 1,000 kW charging power. The company’s ambitious goal is to provide a comprehensive network of high-powered charging stations to meet the growing demand for fast and convenient charging solutions.
The competition between Zeekr and BYD in the development of ultra-fast charging technology reflects the industry’s rapid advancement towards more efficient and sustainable EV charging solutions. As both companies continue to innovate and push the boundaries of charging technology, EV owners can look forward to faster charging speeds and improved charging infrastructure in the near future.
