Zoopla to show each home’s proximity to electric vehicle chargers

Zoopla Partners with Vauxhall to Make Finding Electric Vehicle-Friendly Homes Easier

One of the UK’s biggest property websites, Zoopla, has teamed up with Vauxhall to provide users with information on the ease of charging electric vehicles at the houses or flats they are viewing. This partnership aims to help buyers and renters find homes that are conveniently located near public chargers or already have a domestic charger installed.

Zoopla has enhanced its listings by including details on the distance between a property and its nearest public charger, similar to how it already displays information on schools and train stations. This data is sourced from energy company Octopus and allows users to filter out properties without home chargers from their search results.

The decision to incorporate EV charging information into property listings follows a survey supported by Vauxhall, which revealed that 40% of buyers consider proximity to charging facilities when looking for a new home. Additionally, a third of respondents stated that a lack of accessible EV charging would deter them from a property, with existing EV drivers showing even higher concern at 84%.

Vauxhall emphasizes that the average UK homeowner stays in a property for 17 years, meaning that homes purchased today will likely outlast the upcoming ban on new petrol and diesel car sales. The partnership with Zoopla is part of Vauxhall’s ‘Electric Streets of Britain’ campaign, aimed at expediting the rollout of on-street EV charging infrastructure to cater to the 40% of UK households without driveways for home chargers.

Despite electric cars accounting for around a fifth of new car sales, only 1.6% of Zoopla listings explicitly mention EV charging capacity. This discrepancy highlights the importance of showcasing this essential feature of a property, especially as consumer demand for EV-friendly homes continues to rise.
