The iconic TV show, Top Gear, may have come to an end, but the legend of its mysterious racing driver, known only as “the Stig,” lives on. In a recent adventure, the Stig took on the challenge of drifting the 1,400 hp electric Ford SuperVan around the famous Top Gear test track. And he did it sideways.
We’ve been following the SuperVan project closely, from its record lap times at prestigious motorsports events like Bathurst and the Goodwood Festival of Speed to its awe-inspiring performance on the track. The boxy Ford racer, with its hypercar-beating capabilities, never fails to impress.
In a video released by the official Top Gear YouTube channel, the SuperVan appears to have received a power boost, now boasting a staggering 2,000 hp. The Stig wastes no time in putting all that power to the test, aiming to break the track record.
Without giving too much away, let’s just say that even the most staunch anti-EV critics will have to acknowledge the impressive speed and performance of the SuperVan.
Despite its 2,000 hp, instant torque, and aerodynamic downforce, the SuperVan fell short of beating the top spots held by the Renault R24 and Lotus T125 Exos. However, it did secure a solid third place on the leaderboard with a time of 1:05.3.
While the SuperVan’s third-place finish may be set in stone on the Top Gear leaderboard, the fate of the track itself is uncertain, as rumors of its impending demolition swirl.
You can watch the full video to see the SuperVan in action, or skip ahead to the eight-minute mark for some adrenaline-pumping sideways driving. Share your thoughts on Ford’s high-speed “van” in the comments.
