2025 Acura TLX Review: Prices, Specs, and Photos

Acura’s midsizer, the TLX, is a standout in the segment, offering a winning combination of comfort and performance. With a commendable rating of 7 out of 10, the TLX impresses with its standard power and a balanced chassis that strikes a perfect blend of poise and comfort. For those seeking a bit more excitement, the Type S variant raises the bar even higher with an 8 out of 10 rating thanks to its sharper overall package.

The TLX lineup offers a variety of powertrain options to suit different preferences. Base models come equipped with a peppy 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine producing 272 horsepower, which can be paired with either front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. Paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission, the base TLX delivers a respectable 0-60 mph time of around six seconds, with plenty of power on tap for effortless highway passing. However, some may find the exhaust note to be a bit loud for their liking.

On the other hand, the Type S model takes things up a notch with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine pumping out 355 horsepower. While it’s only marginally faster to 60 mph compared to the base model, the Type S shines in terms of mid-range passing power, making it a more capable performer overall. The steering on all models is quick and direct, with Type S variants feeling slightly heavier and more confident in handling sweeping curves. Beneath the surface, a double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear axle provide a solid foundation for dynamic driving.

For added versatility, models equipped with all-wheel drive also feature adaptive dampers that can adjust the ride quality between comfort and sport modes, catering to both relaxed cruising and spirited driving. While the Type S is a comfortable and confident daily driver, it falls short of being a track-ready performance machine due to its lack of sharpness and strong braking capabilities.

In conclusion, the Acura TLX offers a well-rounded driving experience that strikes a harmonious balance between comfort and performance. Whether you opt for the standard model or the more potent Type S variant, you can expect a rewarding driving experience that blends everyday comfort with a hint of excitement.
