The light SUV segment in Australia is highly competitive, with Chinese manufacturers now offering better and more advanced compact SUVs for under $30,000 drive-away. One of the latest additions to this segment is the Mahindra XUV 3XO, set to launch in Australia soon. Competing with models like the Chery Tiggo 4, Hyundai Venue, Kia Stonic, Mazda CX-3, Toyota Yaris Cross, Nissan Juke, and Volkswagen T-Cross, the XUV 3XO aims to make a mark in the market.
Australian buyers in this segment are price- and feature-conscious, with the Tiggo 4 proving to be a successful option for those seeking affordability, while traditional brands like Yaris Cross and Juke cater to buyers looking for premium options.
Mahindra’s entry into this competitive market with the XUV 3XO presents a significant opportunity for the Indian brand to increase its sales volume in Australia. The vehicle has already seen success in the Indian market, and the Australian models are currently undergoing final preparations before launch.
During a visit to Mahindra’s test track in India, we had the opportunity to test drive the XUV 3XO at high speeds on banked turns, through slalom tests, and extreme maneuvers. The vehicle performed impressively, showcasing its capabilities under various driving conditions.
The XUV 3XO is expected to be priced competitively against the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, with two variants available – the entry-level A5XL and the top-spec A7XL. Both variants offer a range of features, including advanced driver assistance systems, infotainment touch-screen, digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and more.
In terms of interior space, the XUV 3XO feels roomy despite its compact dimensions. The second row is accommodating for adults, and the seats are comfortable and supportive. The vehicle offers ample features such as air-con controls with physical buttons, a 10.2-inch infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, and advanced audio systems.
Under the hood, the XUV 3XO is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain delivers adequate performance and fuel efficiency, making it suitable for everyday driving.
In terms of safety, the XUV 3XO meets all crash requirements for real-world safety, with advanced structural rigidity and crashworthiness. The vehicle is equipped with a range of safety features to ensure the well-being of its occupants.
Overall, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is poised to be a strong contender in the Australian light SUV market, offering a blend of performance, features, and safety. With competitive pricing and a range of variants to choose from, the XUV 3XO is set to make a mark in the segment.
