The Subaru Impreza is a reliable and practical entry-level compact hatchback that offers a smooth and quiet driving experience. Serving as the foundation for the rugged Subaru Crosstrek crossover, the Impreza competes with popular vehicles like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla hatchback, Volkswagen GTI, and Mazda 3.

Despite not being fancy or powerful, the Impreza is known for its refined nature and decent value. It comes equipped with all-wheel drive across the lineup, as well as a range of standard safety features and a large touchscreen display. In fact, the 2025 Impreza has earned a respectable 6.5 TCC Rating on a 10-point scale.

Following a full redesign last year, the 2025 Impreza remains unchanged. The latest model features a traditional hatchback design with practical touches like a step plate for easy access to the roof rack brackets. The RS version stands out with gloss-black exterior trim, dark gray alloy wheels, aluminum pedals, and sport seats with red bolsters.

Under the hood, the Impreza is powered by a 152-hp 2.0-liter flat-4 engine in the base and Sport models, while the RS variant gets a more robust 182-hp 2.5-liter flat-4 engine. Both engines are paired with a continuously variable transmission, with the Sport and RS models benefiting from eight gear ratios that mimic a traditional automatic transmission.

While the Impreza may not be as sporty as the WRX, it excels in providing a comfortable and composed ride, especially at highway speeds. The standard 7.0-inch touchscreen display is user-friendly, with the Sport and RS models featuring an upgraded 11.6-inch touchscreen.

In terms of safety, the Impreza boasts good ratings, including a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. It comes equipped with a variety of advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control. Optional safety features include rear cross-traffic alerts, blind-spot monitors, and steering assist.

Pricing for the 2025 Subaru Impreza starts at $24,665 for the base model, with the Sport and RS models priced at $26,665 and $29,555, respectively. Optional packages and features can increase the price significantly, making the RS model comparable in price to the Subaru WRX.

Overall, the 2025 Subaru Impreza continues to offer a solid combination of practicality, comfort, and safety. Made in Gunma, Japan, this compact hatchback is a reliable choice for drivers looking for a versatile and capable daily driver.
