Mercedes-Benz Set to Launch Electric C-Class EQ in 2026
Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to expand its electric line-up next year with the introduction of the all-new electric-powered C-Class EQ. This model will be twinned with the recently unveiled GLC EQ and will offer stiff competition to BMW’s upcoming electric 3 Series, the i3.
Just like the GLC EQ, the new C-Class will feature Mercedes’ new ‘Iconic Grille’ design, designed to distinguish between ICE and EV models. This new design direction was showcased at the Munich motor show, giving a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming C-Class EQ.
Based on the new MB.EA platform, the C-Class EQ will feature an 800V electrical architecture and will boast a longer wheelbase and wider tracks compared to its combustion-engined counterpart. This will result in a more spacious interior with improved rear legroom and headroom, addressing previous criticisms of EQ saloons.
The drivetrain options for the C-Class EQ will be similar to the GLC EQ, ranging from a 335bhp single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model to a dual-motor 4Matic with up to 482bhp. The electric saloon will come equipped with a 94.5kWh NMC battery, offering an impressive range of 497 miles (800km) on a single charge.
In terms of performance, an AMG variant of the C-Class EQ is also in the works and expected to hit the market in 2027. Utilizing powerful axial-flux motors developed by UK-based Mercedes subsidiary Yasa, the AMG variant is set to surpass the 680bhp output of the current plug-in hybrid C63 S E Performance.
With sleeker and more aerodynamic design, the C-Class EQ is touted to be capable of charging at speeds of up to 400kW, ensuring quick and efficient charging times for drivers. The new electric saloon is expected to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market and further solidify Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
