Ferrari Is Taking the Memorabilia Market Into Its Own Hands

The market for racing memorabilia is a lucrative and captivating one, offering fans the opportunity to own a piece of history from their favorite team or driver. From apparel to tools to parts, the world of racing memorabilia is vast and diverse. However, when it comes to items like used race engines, keeping track of their history and value can be a bit challenging.

Ferrari, a renowned Italian carmaker, has recently taken steps to revolutionize the memorabilia industry. While the company has been privately selling gear and used parts for years, it has now decided to formalize the process and enhance the history and value behind its memorabilia. This initiative has led to the creation of Ferrari Collectibles, a line of products that includes engines and body pieces from Formula 1 cars, as well as smaller items like valves, pistons, camshafts, and connecting rods.

To transform these pieces into displayable works of art, Ferrari has established a team within its design center. Each item is meticulously presented using stands made of perspex or aluminum, tailored to the item’s size, shape, and weight. For example, a LaFerrari prototype V-12 engine is deconstructed into several pieces and suspended using aluminum supports, creating a visually striking display that showcases the intricate details of the engine components.

According to Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari’s chief design officer, the use of transparent materials and structural elements gives the objects a sense of suspension and lightness, allowing them to be appreciated in their purest form. This approach aligns with Ferrari’s design philosophy, which prioritizes simplicity and elegance.

Beyond simply capitalizing on the value of its parts, Ferrari aims to shape its brand perception through its collectibles. By offering customers the assurance that they are purchasing authentic products directly from the source, Ferrari seeks to enhance its reputation and strengthen its connection with fans. The exquisite Perspex stands serve as a finishing touch, adding a touch of sophistication to the collectibles.

While Ferrari Collectibles are exclusive and come with a hefty price tag, there are more affordable options available for enthusiasts. Items like race-used brake discs and smaller engine components can be purchased through Ferrari’s website. Whether it’s a rare engine from a Schumacher-raced F1 car or a humble valve, Ferrari Collectibles offer fans the chance to own a piece of racing history in a unique and visually stunning way.
