New Lexus ES may be sold in UK exclusively with electric power

The highly anticipated eighth-generation Lexus ES is making a comeback to take on its German rivals, the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. This time around, the Lexus ES could be going all-electric in the UK market, a bold move that sets it apart from the competition.

In Western Europe, the ES will be available with a 199bhp hybrid powertrain, as well as two battery-electric options. However, there is a possibility that Lexus UK may opt to offer only electric powertrains, considering the increasing demand for EVs in the UK. This decision would mean that the hybrid version may not make it to UK showrooms.

If the hybrid is indeed excluded, UK customers can look forward to the front-wheel-drive ES 350e and the all-wheel-drive ES 500e. The ES 350e features a 221bhp motor and a 77kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of approximately 329 miles and a 0-62mph acceleration time of 8.2 seconds. On the other hand, the ES 500e boasts 338bhp and a quicker 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds, although its range is expected to be slightly lower than that of the 350e.

The latest iteration of the Lexus ES made its debut at the prestigious Shanghai Motor Show, where it enjoys a strong following as the top imported vehicle. Lexus promises improvements in ride quality, comfort, and quietness compared to its predecessor, aiming to deliver a luxurious experience for all occupants.

The interior of the new ES features a sleek and modern design, with a focus on simplicity and elegance. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese market, the cockpit is stripped of excessive physical controls, featuring a prominent 12.3-inch touchscreen as the main interface. Beneath the screen, a row of haptic switches adds a touch of sophistication, illuminating when the car is in use.

Overall, the new Lexus ES sets a new standard for luxury and innovation in the executive saloon segment. With its potential shift towards electric powertrains, it is poised to make a bold statement in the UK market and offer customers a sustainable and premium driving experience.
