Kia’s first electric sedan, the EV4, has been making waves in the market since its launch. In just its second month on the market, the Kia EV4 became the best-selling domestic electric sedan in Korea. Initially, the EV4 faced some challenges with delivery delays and subsidy issues, resulting in only 831 units sold in its first month. However, in May, sales surged to 1,373 units, showcasing the growing demand for this electric vehicle.
Hyundai’s IONIQ 6 also experienced a boost in sales, with a 100% increase from the previous year. To stay competitive in the market, Hyundai is offering significant discounts on the current model, with up to $6,500 in discounts. The influx of new electric sedans from competitors like BYD has also prompted Hyundai and Kia to be more aggressive with their pricing strategies.
The Kia EV4 has been dubbed a “box office hit” by industry insiders, thanks to its affordable price starting at about $30,000. It is even more budget-friendly than BYD’s Seal electric sedan, which is priced at $35,000 in Korea. The EV4 offers two battery sizes, with driving ranges of 237 miles and 331 miles, making it a practical choice for daily commuting.
Inside, the EV4 features Kia’s new ccNC infotainment system with dual 12.3″ navigation and driver display screens, along with a 5″ climate control screen. The trim options and prices for the EV4 in Korea vary, catering to different preferences and budgets.
The real test for the EV4 will come when it launches in Europe later this year and in the US in 2026. The US version will come with the same battery pack options, offering ranges of up to 235 miles and 330 miles. The EV4 will also feature a built-in NACS port in the US, providing access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Kia has ambitious plans to sell 165,000 EV4s globally per year, with a significant portion allocated to Europe, the US, and Korea. Official prices for the US market are yet to be announced, but it is expected to start around $35,000 to $40,000. The EV4 is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market, offering a compelling combination of price, range, and features.
