LG Energy Solution Ltd (LGES), a leading South Korean electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer, has recently announced a significant deal with Chery Automobile Company, a Chinese state-owned automaker. The agreement entails LGES supplying Chery with 8 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of its newly developed 46-series cylindrical battery cells over a period of six years starting in 2026. This supply is expected to power over 120,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and is estimated to be valued at over KRW 1 trillion (US$ 734 million).

The 46-series cylindrical batteries by LGES are an upgrade from its existing 2170-series batteries, offering larger size and higher power output. These nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) cells boast higher energy density and improved charging efficiency, making them ideal for Chery’s flagship BEV models. The collaboration between LGES and Chery is not limited to this initial deal, as both companies have expressed interest in expanding their partnership to encompass more BEV models in the future.

CEO of LGES, Kim Dong-myung, emphasized the significance of this partnership in advancing the global adoption of the new 46-series batteries and solidifying LGES’s position as a market leader. The innovative technology and superior performance of these batteries are expected to drive the growth of the electric vehicle market and contribute to a more sustainable automotive industry.

In addition to this exciting development, nominations are now open for the prestigious Just Auto Excellence Awards. This esteemed program celebrates innovation, leadership, and impact in the automotive industry, providing an opportunity for companies to showcase their achievements and gain global recognition. Don’t miss the chance to be honored among the best in the industry – submit your nomination today and be part of this exclusive event.
