Ford has issued a global recall for over 300,000 Mustang Mach-E models due to a glitch that could potentially leave drivers locked out or even trapped inside their vehicles. The recall affects nearly 200,000 vehicles in the US alone.
The issue stems from an unexpected 12V battery discharge that may cause the front door electronic latch to malfunction, preventing access to the vehicle. Ford has instructed dealers to halt sales of the electric SUV until a fix is implemented.
The affected Mustang Mach-E models, spanning from 2021 to 2025, are being recalled for a software update expected to be rolled out in Q3. Owners will be notified via mail to schedule an appointment with their local dealer for the free update, which may require a visit to the dealership rather than an over-the-air software update.
In the US, Ford is recalling 197,432 Mustang Mach-Es from model years 2021 to 2025. Owners can contact Ford’s customer service at 1-888-436-7332 or the NHTSA Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
In addition to the recall, Ford recently confirmed price increases on vehicles built in Mexico, including the Mustang Mach-E. Despite the price hikes, Ford continues to offer employee pricing on most 2024 and 2025 models, with the 2025 Mustang Mach-E starting at $36,005 with the discount.
Despite the recall and pricing adjustments, Ford saw an increase in Mustang Mach-E sales in the US, with 4,724 units sold in the previous month, up 11% from the same period last year. Overall, Ford has sold 19,258 Mustang Mach-Es in the US in the first five months of 2025, representing a 2.8% increase from the previous year.
